About the Author
Maria Gorham is an undergraduate student at the University of Iowa, studying Spanish, Human Relations, and Translation. In the summer of 2021, she received a research grant through the Iowa Center for Undergraduate Research to pursue the question of how languages construct relationships in Colombia. She shares some of her findings on this website as teaching and learning resources. During the course of her Spanish major she has also studied gender disparities in health care, languages of narrative, and the sociolinguistics of Spanish-speaking collectivist cultures.
Her current work is a sociolinguistic study of courtship in Spain. After graduation in 2022, she plans to pursue a career in academia.
